New October issue of Lanai Today now available!

On December 7, 2023, families gathered for the Maile untying ceremony at Hōkūao, celebrating the start of a new chapter with thoughtfully designed homes, solar-powered energy, and a community built for thriving.

Design Create Space, a boutique architectural and interior design firm, engages with the Lānaʻi community by managing the design and functionality of Hōkūao and hosting clinics for the LHES paddling team.

Blue Ginger Café is a local favorite, known for its delicious chicken katsu introduced by the late Joseph Abilay, featuring a special katsu sauce from Japan.

Hosted by Councilmember Gabe Johnson, residents gathered at the Lānaʻi Senior Center to voice their opinions and discuss key community topics, including the future of the old First Hawaiian Bank building, affordable housing projects, and other local initiatives.

The 2nd Annual Lōkahi Day at Lānaʻi High & Elementary School saw community involvement as volunteers came together to improve the campus in support of the current school year.

The pog revival is sweeping through Lānaʻi, bringing back memories of the ‘90s and creating new ones.

This past July, Kehau Esteban and Isabel Campbell, from the Love Lāna‘i team, travelled to Hilo to meet with Doug Simmons, director of the University of Hawai‘i’s Institute for Astronomy (IfA), to discuss practical ways to enhance Lānaʻi’s observatory experience and visit the campus facilities. 

LHES students Hershey Lei Manuel and Miguel Nakao conducted research and data analysis to address the island’s food security issues.

Throughout her time on Lāna‘i, Lucie explored her passion for filmmaking. Soon, she’ll be off to Pace University in New York City, where she’ll major in arts and entertainment management.

Hawaiian monk seals, one of the world’s most endangered marine mammals, are making a remarkable comeback with around 1,500 now in Hawaiian waters. Lepeka is one of the newest additions to the population.
