Inaugural issue of “Between Pines” now available!
from the Managing Editor, Anthony Kaauamo
“Between Pines” is a companion to Lānaʻi Today and was created with a clear purpose: to give our island’s nonprofits, public agencies, and service providers a dedicated space to share updates, opportunities, and resources with the community.
The name “Between Pines” reflects both our landscape and our history. Lānaʻi’s iconic Cook pine trees are familiar landmarks, characteristic of our town and the Lānaʻi Hale backdrop. The word “pines” also nods to Lānaʻi’s pineapple era, a defining chapter in our past that shaped our economy, culture, and identity. Just as the spaces between the pines create paths for connection, this publication aims to be a space where community members, organizations, and businesses can meet, share, and grow together.
In each issue, you will find a mix of practical information such as program announcements, event calendars, and service guides, alongside advertisements from local businesses. The goal is to give organizations a consistent and reliable way to reach the people they serve, and to give residents a single place to discover what is happening around them. Whether you are looking for a public meeting notice, a seasonal schedule, or the services offered by a neighbor’s small business, we are hoping you will be able to find it here.
We are starting small but steady. Between Pines will be published quarterly, with each issue focused on clarity, accessibility, and balance. Ads come either directly from businesses or are produced in house. For the ones I create, I handle copywriting, photography, and simple layouts, while more complex projects are done in collaboration with outside designers. This publication is built in collaboration with the organizations, public agencies, and businesses of Lānaʻi, whose submitted announcements, advertisements, and updates will help it grow and remain a resource for the community.
This new edition arrives as Lānaʻi Today moves fully into a digital format. You can now find us here on our website, on Facebook, and on Instagram for regular news, updates, and stories. You can also reach me directly at akaauamo@pulamalanai.com. We look forward to seeing how “Between Pines” can grow with your feedback and participation. Mahalo for reading and for helping make this first issue possible.
